Running around

I haven't been doing much 'proper' exercise lately. I have been rushing around London being very busy. This has meant I have exercised :-)

I went to my first Olympic-style weightlifting class on Monday, and the bruises from that have put me off running. I wrote about that on my other journal... will copy/paste here for my reference.

Today I learnt that I am a total n00b where Olympic-syle weightlifting is concerned. I've been weight training for 3 years now, and I'm really pleased with how that's changed my body. However, that didn't help me at my weight-lifting class today!

It's all about technique, and I suck at learning physical stuff. It's a dyspraxia thing I think. The teacher was pretty encouraging.

I had an awful start to the class when he directed me to the women's changing rooms. Bah! He got me started on the women's equipment*, so I came out to him as being trans. If I hadn't have done that I might have punched a wall and left, and violent public self-harm is never a good thing! I told him I'd be more comfortable using the male equipent and he was happy with that.

We learnt the snatch and the clean and jerk. I will practice on my own with just a bar later in the week.

* The women's bars are slightly narrower and lighter, and not pink ;-)



Today I finally made it back to the gym. I had a bit of a warm-up then I did a full upper-body workout. I was going to do 30 minutes of cardio after that, but my body screamed 'no' and I listened to it :D I treated myself to a bit tray of sushi and a rice/red bean paste cake thing. Mmmm.
